Hello, everyone.

大家好。

Welcome back to Talk Speak, your favorite spot for learning real, everyday English.

欢迎回到 Talk Speak,这是你学习真实、日常英语的最喜爱的场所。

I'm Olivia, your host, and today we're talking about one of my absolute favorite weekend activities,

我是你们的主持人奥利维亚,今天我们来谈谈我绝对最喜欢的周末活动之一,

going to the movies.

去看电影。

There's nothing quite like sharing some buttery popcorn, sitting in a dark theater, and enjoying a

没有什么比分享一些涂有黄油的爆米花,坐在黑暗的剧院里,并享受

great story with friends.

与朋友们一起分享精彩的故事更好的了。

But as simple as it sounds, inviting someone out can sometimes feel a bit stressful if English isn't

但听起来很简单,如果英语不是你的母语,邀请某人出去有时会让人感到有些压力。

your first language.

你的第一语言。

To help us navigate this, I've invited a special guest today.

为了帮助我们应对这一点,我今天请了一位特殊的嘉宾。

Everyone, please welcome Brian.

大家,请欢迎布莱恩。

Hi, Olivia.

嗨,奥利维亚。

Thanks for having me.

谢谢你邀请我。

Hello, everyone.

大家好。

I'm so excited to be here.

我非常兴奋能来到这里。

To be honest, this topic is perfect for me.

老实说,这个话题对我来说太完美了。

I love movies, especially action films, but every Friday when I want to invite my co -workers to join

我喜欢电影,特别是动作片,但每到周五当我想邀请我的同事加入

me, my mind just goes blank.

我,我的脑子就一片空白。

I usually end up going alone because I'm too scared of saying the wrong thing and making it awkward.

我通常最终会一个人去,因为我太害怕说错话而感到尴尬。

Oh, Brian, you are definitely not alone in this.

哦,布莱恩,在这方面你绝对不是一个人。

Asking a friend or colleague out to the movies is a very common social scenario, but it requires a

约朋友或同事去看电影是一个非常普遍的社交场景,但它需要

mix of casual language, politeness, and clear coordination.

结合了随意语言、礼貌和清晰的协调。

Don't worry.

别担心。

By the end of today's episode, you'll have a pocket full of natural phrases to use.

到今天节目结束时,你的口袋里就会装满可以使用的自然短语。

Let's start with a little experiment.

让我们从一个小的实验开始。

Imagine you see your colleague at the coffee machine on Friday morning.

想象一下,你在周五早上的咖啡机旁看到了你的同事。

How would you invite them to see a movie this weekend?

你将如何邀请他们这周末去看电影?

Um, let me try.

嗯,让我试试。

I would probably say, hey, do you want to look a movie with me at this weekend?

我可能会说,嘿,你想这周末跟我一起看电影吗?

How does that sound?

那听起来怎么样?

That's a fantastic start, Brian.

这是一个极好的开始,布莱恩。

It's clear and direct.

它清晰且直接。

However, there are two small things we can polish to make it sound much more natural.

然而,有两件小事我们可以润色,让它听起来自然得多。

Let's use our three -step correction here.

让我们在这里使用我们的三步纠错。

First, you said, look a movie.

首先,你说了,看电影。

In English, we don't look a movie.

在英语中,我们不说 look a movie。

We watch a movie or see a movie.

我们看电影或看电影。

Look is used when your eyes are fixed on a stationary object, like, look at this photo.

当你把眼睛固定在静止的物体上时,就会使用 look,比如,看这张照片。

But movies have movement, so we watch or see them.

但是电影有运动,所以我们 watch 或 see 它们。

Second, you said, at this weekend.

其次,你说了,在周末。

We actually don't need the preposition at here.

我们实际上这里不需要介词 at。

We just say, this weekend.

我们只需说,this weekend。

So can you try putting that together?

所以你能试着把它放在一起吗?

Ah, of course.

啊,当然。

So I should say, do you want to see a movie with me this weekend? Perfect.

所以我应该说,这周末你想和我一起去看电影吗?完美。

You nailed it.

你搞定了。

See how such a small change makes a huge difference?

看这样一个微小的改变是如何产生巨大的影响的?

Now, if you want to sound even more casual and like a native speaker, you can use the word catch

现在,如果你想听起来更随意并且像一个母语者,你可以用 catch 这个词

instead of see.

代替 see。

For example, do you want to catch a movie this weekend?

例如,这周末你想看场电影吗?

Catch a movie.

看一场电影。

Oh, I like that.

哦,我喜欢那个。

It sounds really active, like catching a ball.

听起来真的很活跃,就像接球一样。

Is flick also a word people use?

flick也是人们经常使用的词吗?

I think I heard it in a TV show once.

我觉得我曾在某个电视节目里听过它。

Excellent question.

出色的问题。

Yes, flick is a very common slang word for a movie.

是的,flick是电影的一个非常常见的俚语。

You might hear someone say, do you want to catch a flick?

你可能会听到有人说,你想去看场电影吗?

It's extremely casual and friendly.

这极其随意且友好。

Now, let's build on this.

现在,让我们在此构建。

Once your friend says, sure, I'm down, which by the way means, yes, I'm interested.

一旦你的朋友说,当然,我赞同,顺便说一下,这意思就是,是的,我很感兴趣。

What's the next logical question they would ask?

他们会问的下一个逻辑问题是什么?

They would probably ask what movie we are going to watch, right?

他们可能会问我们要去看什么电影,对吧?

How do I ask them what they want to see?

我该如何问他们想看什么?

Or how do I tell them what is showing? Exactly.

或者我该如何告诉他们正在上映什么?完全正确。

To ask what movies are available in the theater right now, the most common and natural phrase is,

要问现在影院里有什么可用的电影,最常见和自然的短语是,

what's playing?

正在上映什么?

Or what's out right now?

或者现在有什么推出的?

Let's say that again.

让我们再说一遍。

What's playing?

正在上映什么?

It's short, sweet, and idiomatic.

它简短、精炼且很地道。

Another way is, what's in theaters at the moment?

另一种方式是,目前影院里有什么?

Oh, what's playing is so easy to remember.

哦,what's playing太容易记住了。

If I want to suggest a specific genre, like a comedy or a thriller, how should I phrase that?

如果我想建议一个具体的类型,比如喜剧或惊悚片,我该怎么表达?

This is where we can look at some handy sentence structures.

在这里我们可以看一些实用的句型。

Two of the best universal templates for making suggestions are, why don't we?

提出建议的两个最佳通用模板是,为什么我们不……?

And how about?

还有关于……呢?

But be careful with the grammar here.

但这里要小心语法。

After why don't we, we use the base verb.

在why don't we之后,我们使用原形动词。

For example, why don't we see that new sci -fi movie?

例如,为什么我们不去看那部新的科幻电影呢?

But after how about, we usually use the ing form of the verb.

但是在how about之后,我们通常使用动词的ing形式。

For example, how about seeing that new sci -fi movie?

例如,去看那部新的科幻电影怎么样?

Ah, grammar.

啊,语法。

Let me practice.

让我练习一下。

If I want to suggest a comedy, why don't we watch the new comedy?

如果我想建议一部喜剧,为什么我们不看新喜剧呢?

And how about watching the new comedy?

那观看新喜剧怎么样?

Did I get that right?

我弄对了吗?

You absolutely did.

你绝对做对了。

10 out of 10, Brian.

10分出色,布莱恩。

You're getting the hang of this so quickly.

你这么快就掌握了其中的诀窍。

Now, let's talk about a cultural aspect that often confuses people.

现在,让我们来谈谈一个经常让人困惑的文化方面。

Booking tickets and paying.

预订门票并付款。

In English -speaking countries, when you invite someone, does it mean you are paying for them?

在英语国家,当你邀请某人时,这是否意味着你要为他们买单?

What do you think, Brian?

你怎么认为,布莱恩?

Honestly, I always worry about this.

坦白说,我总是担心这个。

In my culture, sometimes the person who invites is expected to pay.

在我的文化中,有时人们期望邀请人来付钱。

Once I wanted to say I would pay for my colleague, so I said, I will pay you.

有一次我想说我要为我的同事买单,于是我说,I will pay you。

But he looked really confused and a bit uncomfortable.

但他看起来真的很困惑,还有点不舒服。

It was so embarrassing.

太令人尴尬了。

Ha ha ha.

哈哈哈。

Oh, I can see why.

哦,我能理解为什么了。

Let's break down why I will pay you caused a misunderstanding.

让我们分析一下为什么我说我会付钱会引起误解。

In English, I will pay you sounds like you owe the money, like a debt.

在英语中,‘我来付钱’听起来像是你欠了这笔钱,就像一件债务一样。

Or it can even sound like a business transaction.

或者它甚至听起来像是一笔商业交易。

To offer to pay for someone's ticket in a friendly, casual way, we have some beautiful idioms.

为了以友好、随意的方帮别人买票,我们有一些优美的习语。

You can say, it's on me.

你可以说,这顿我请。

Or, my treat.

或者,我来请客。

For example, let's see that movie.

比如说,我们去看那部电影吧。

It's on me.

算在我头上。

Or, let's go.

或者,我们走吧。

My treat.

我来请客。

Oh, it's on me.

哦,算在我头上。

And my treat sounds so much warmer and more natural.

而且‘我请客’听起来要温馨得多,也更加自然。

What if we want to pay separately, like everyone pays for themselves?

如果我们想分别付钱,比如各自付各自的呢?

In that case, you can use the phrase, go Dutch.

在这种情况下,你可以使用这个短语,AA制。

Let's go Dutch means everyone pays for their own ticket and snacks.

‘我们AA制’意味着每个人支付自己的票钱和零食钱。

Or even more commonly in casual conversation, you can say, we can split it or let's split the cost.

或者在日常对话中更常见的是,你可以说我们可以平摊或者我们分摊费用吧。

That is incredibly useful.

这极其有用。

Let's go Dutch or we can split it.

我们可以AA制或者平摊费用。

If I want to book the tickets online beforehand, because nowadays most theaters have assigned

如果我想预先在网上订票,因为现在大多数影院都有

seating, what should I say?

座位安排,我该说什么?

Yes, assigned seating or reserved seating is very common now.

是的,指定座位或预留座位现在非常普遍。

You can say, I'll book the tickets online.

你可以说,我会在网上订票。

Or, should I buy the tickets in advance?

或者,我应该提前买票吗?

If you want to offer to book them and have them pay you back later, you can say, I'll get the

如果你想主动提出帮他们订票并让他们稍后还钱,你可以说,我来

tickets and you can Venmo me later.

买票,你稍后可以用Venmo转给我。

Or, you can pay me back later. Venmo?

或者,你付我钱也行。Venmo?

That's a mobile payment app, right?

那是一个移动支付应用,对吧?

Just like WeChat Pay or Alipay in China. Exactly.

就像中国的微信支付或支付宝一样。完全正确。

In the U .S., people often use Venmo as a verb.

在美国,人们经常把Venmo当作动词使用。

Venmo me is just like saying transfer the money to me on the app.

‘Venmo我’就像是说在应用上把钱转给我一样。

It's very modern and extremely common among friends.

这非常现代,在朋友之间极其常见。

That makes so much sense.

这太有道理了。

I'm learning so much practical English today.

我今天学到了这么多实用的英语。

I'm so glad to hear that.

听到这个我非常高兴。

Now, let's put everything we've learned into practice with a real -life scenario.

现在,让我们通过一个现实生活中的场景,把我们学到的所有东西付诸实践。

Imagine you're at work and you want to invite me, your co -worker, to see a new action movie this

想象一下你在工作,你想邀请我这个同事去看一部新的动作电影,就在

Friday evening.

周五晚上。

You want to suggest the 7 p .m.

你想建议晚上7点

showing, and you're offering to buy the tickets in advance so we can sit together.

的场次,并且你主动提出提前买票,这样我们可以坐在一起。

Let's do a quick roleplay.

我们做一个简单的角色扮演。

Are you ready? Okay.

你准备好了吗?好的。

I'm a bit nervous, but let's do it.

我有点紧张,但我们开始吧。

I'll start.

我来开始。

Hey, Olivia, are you free this Friday evening?

嘿,奥利维亚,这周五晚上你有空吗?

Do you want to catch a movie?

你想去看场电影吗?

Oh, hi, Brian.

哦,嗨,布莱恩。

Actually, I don't have any plans this Friday.

事实上,我这周五没有任何计划。

I'd love to.

我非常愿意。

What's playing?

正在上映什么?

There is a new action movie.

有一部新的动作电影。

Oh, wait.

哦,等等。

How about seeing the new action movie?

看那部新的动作电影怎么样?

I heard it's really exciting.

我听说这部电影真的很令人兴奋。

Oh, I've seen the trailer for that.

哦,我看过那个的预告片。

It looks amazing.

看起来太棒了。

What time?

什么时候?

Why don't we catch the 7 p .m. showing?

我们为什么不赶晚上7点的场次呢?

I can book the tickets online so we get good seats.

我可以在网上预订门票,这样我们能买到好座位。

I can pay first and you can Venmo me later.

我可以先付钱,你回头再通过 Venmo 转账给我。

That sounds perfect.

听起来完美极了。

Thanks for booking the tickets.

谢谢你预订门票。

Let's meet at the lobby around 6 .45 p .m.

我们晚上6点45分左右在大厅碰头吧。

Popcorn is on me. Awesome.

爆米花我请客。太棒了。

See you on Friday.

周五见。

And scene.

好了,场景结束。

Wow, Brian, that was absolutely flawless.

哇,布莱恩,那真是完美无瑕。

You used catch a movie, how about seeing, why don't we catch, and even managed to naturally suggest

你用了 catch a movie,how about seeing,why don't we catch,甚至还设法自然地提出

splitting the cost with Venmo.

用 Venmo 平摊费用。

How did that feel?

感觉如何?

Honestly, it felt so much more natural than my usual textbook phrases.

老实说,这比我平时用的教科书短语自然多了。

I didn't feel stiff at all.

我一点也不觉得生硬。

Using catch a movie instead of look a movie just flowed so much better.

用 catch a movie 代替 look a movie 听起来流畅多了。

That's the power of learning chunk by chunk instead of translating word for word in your head.

这就是一块一块地学习,而不是在脑子里逐字翻译的力量。

You did a marvelous job, and I'm sure your real -life colleagues are going to love hanging out with

你做得精彩极了,我确信你现实生活中的同事会喜欢和你一起

you at the movies.

在电影院看电影。

Thank you so much, Olivia.

非常感谢你,奥利维亚。

I feel way more confident now.

我现在感觉自信多了。

I can't wait for Friday to actually try this out at the office.

我迫不及待地想在周五去办公室实际尝试一下了。

That is what I love to hear.

这正是我喜欢听到的。

Now, before we wrap up today's episode, let's do a quick recap of the core points we learned today

现在,在我们结束今天的节目之前,让我们快速回顾一下今天学到的核心要点

so our listeners can lock them in.

这样我们的听众就能牢牢掌握它们。

First, remember, we watch or see or catch a movie.

首先,记住,我们是 watch、see 或者是 catch a movie。

We never look a movie.

我们从不说 look a movie。

Second, to ask what's available, use the simple phrase, what's playing?

第二,要询问有什么可用的,可以用这个简单的短语,what's playing?

Third, for suggestions, remember the grammar.

第三,关于建议,记住这个语法。

Why don't we plus base verb versus how about plus ing.

Why don't we 加动词原形,对比 how about 加 ing。

And finally, if you're paying for your friend, say, it's on me or my treat.

最后,如果你为朋友付钱,可以说,it's on me 或者 my treat。

And if you're splitting, say, let's go Dutch or let's split it.

如果你要平摊,可以说,let's go Dutch 或者 let's split it。

Those are such great practical rules.

这些都是非常棒的实用规则。

I've already written them down in my notebook.

我已经把它们写在我的笔记本里了。

Fantastic, Brian.

太棒了,布莱恩。
